The Diesel Powered Equipment program provides practical experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brake systems, preventative maintenance, suspensions, and steering. Students receive instruction in troubleshooting, engine analysis, disassembling engines replacing defective parts, reassembling, etc. The program mission is to provide technical instructional and skill development to enable students to enter employment in truck, construction, agricultural equipment, and other related fields as technicians. The length of the entire course is 20 months or 2160 clock hours. The actual time for completion may vary between students.

Job Opportunities:

A career in the diesel service technician/mechanic field is attractive because of relatively high wages and the challenge of skilled repair work. As today's  economy increasingly depends on diesel-powered equipment, diesel service technician/mechanics may find opportunities servicing trucks, buses, construction equipment, and farm equipment.

Employment Outlook:

Diesel maintenance is becoming more and more complex as more electronic components are used to control engine operation. For this reason, employers are hiring technicians who are formally trained and nationally certified (ASE).
