Technology Foundations
Technology Foundations focuses on the basic skills of reading, math, and language arts. All students enrolling in Tennessee Technology Centers throughout the state must meet the state requirement in basic skills. Each student is tested and assessed to their skill level upon entrance into the program. Those who have deficiencies must complete a series of remedial studies through a computer-assisted instructional program (PLATO), utilized by the Tennessee Technology Centers system-wide. Upon satisfaction of the state requirement, the student attains a completed status in basic skills. Technology Foundations also oversees advanced basic skills, which fall under the heading of Related Studies. These skills are taught by instructors in each program and are related specifically to each field of study. For instance, a person studying in Machine Tool Technology will learn advanced math for that occupation. A person who enrolls in Business Systems Technology will learn advanced business math and principles of ten-key operations. These related skills are those that are necessary for success in each given area of occupational study.
